Moulinex Plastic Vegetable Mill 00

Loving my new Moulinex Plastic Vegetable Mill

Is the Moulinex plastic vegetable mill a mouli or just a regular manual food mill?

I’m not sure, but either way, I’m really enjoying using it. I picked it up from Amazon for less than £30, and it seems to be a good quality product. It’s dishwasher safe and comes with two stainless steel grids — one for fine and one for medium grinding.

Once upon a time in a cosy French kitchen, there lived a humble dishwasher-safe mouli. Its name? Vegetina (or “Veggie” for short). This was no ordinary gadget — Veggie was a proud Large Model, made in France, with shiny tin-plated steel and a crank handle ready for heroics.

One morning, Chef Tom had a mission: the Great Tomato Purée Quest. A basket of ripe red tomatoes sat beside the stove, their plump cheeks glistening in the morning light. “Let’s make magic,” Tom declared. Veggie’s non-slip feet braced firmly on the saucepan as the tomatoes entered the chamber.

As Chef Tom turned the knob, Veggie’s gears sprang to life. Spin, spin, spin — the tomatoes surrendered their skins and seeds, emerging as a silky red river of purée. Veggie hummed with pride. After all, it was built for this: two stainless steel grids (one fine, one medium) ready for whatever culinary challenge arose.

But the adventure wasn’t over. Next came the stubborn swede and the turnip, both notoriously cranky when asked to mash. Veggie flexed its crank and said, “Bring it on.” With each turn, the roots softened and surrendered, transforming into creamy mash. Veggie winked its plastic handle in satisfaction.

Then, as dusk drew near, Tom had a grand idea: apple compote for a friend’s visit. Veggie settled itself over a mixing bowl and got to work. Apple chunks surrendered, skins left behind, pips politely declined entry. The result? Silky apple compote — and Tom laughed with delight at Veggie’s accomplished performance.

At the end of the day, Veggie was rinsed, dried, and neatly tucked away (though it mused: “Maybe I deserve a little cupboard throne”). It had stood firm, processed vegetables and fruit like a champ, and helped turn produce into edible delight.

So if you ever hear a faint whisper from your kitchen — “Turn me, turn me!” — it might just be Veggie the Vegetable Mill, eager for the next mission. Will it be soup, purée, compote? Only you and it will know.
